my travels around the world

Note on pronunciation: this is not pronounced as an English speaker would tend to, it is pronounced “poo-geet” or something there abouts. (But for those of you who like potty humor, off the coast of Phuket lies the island of Phi Phi which is also pronounced without the “h”s making it pee-pee island.)

Also really random factoid I learned watching the national spelling bee at one point: the proper spelling for the letter H is “aitch.” The girl who got it was somewhat peeved at having to spell a letter… But I digress.

This was the vacation from my trip. It is a resort island off the west coast of Thailand. There is a mix of very classy hotels/resorts and party spots. I stayed in a fancy hotel… Super cheap, because midsummer is the off season. (It was an $800 a night room… I stayed for less than 10% of that price.) (It was nice and all, but it was a hotel room, I can't quite picture a room that is actually worth $800 a night.)

I basically spent a few days on the beach or by the pool. I got sunburned. I had a friend from Klingenstein who happened to be there at the same time, so we met up for dinner. The few days I spent there were beautiful.

My hotel was across the street from a beach, 150 meters at most. There were a bunch of restaurants right along the beach and I had a few meals that were all about the mantra of real estate: location, location, location! (The food weren't half bad either!)

All in all it was a great few days of relaxing in the sun and sand.

Sand, sun, surf, sweeeeeeet:

Sweeping the beach

The view from my balcony… Very nice.

That is what lunch should look like
